Choosing Support for Your Doula Journey: Mentoring with Allison

Birth work is too important and too demanding to navigate alone

I know this in my body. I know this personally and professionally, through the countless conversations I have had with colleagues, new and experienced. Especially because doula work can feel a little isolating– while you are “on the job,” you are most often there solo, without any coworkers– it’s extremely important that doulas find the supports and mentors they need to find growth, confidence, and ease in their role.

As a doula trainer and someone who has been in the birth world since 1997 and has owned a doula agency since 2010, I have had the honor of mentoring many, many doulas along their journeys. I have recently started offering mentorship as a formal offering, which allows me and the doulas I support to build an ongoing relationship that is focused on their unique growth edges.

Working with Allison

In the 1-1 mentorship context, mentees can expect to receive personalized coaching, resources, and feedback. My style is direct and supportive. It is really important to me that I offer folks tools for building sustainable businesses. We live in a culture and time that can be so focused on output and hustling, and I strive to slow us down, such that we can work with intention and care– both on the client-facing side and back end of our businesses.

My goal as a mentor is to help doulas identify who and how they want to show up as in their work and hone in on measurable goals. I strive to provide the scaffolding– tools, advise, experience, etc.– that doulas can use to build from.

One aspect of working with me will always be a focus on boundaries. Because this work is important and demanding, I am passionate about helping doulas develop and maintain boundaries that serve them in the short and long term.

What's Included in Mentorship

Mentorship is currently offered as a 1-1 service. This means that doulas get to focus on their unique needs, areas of challenge, and celebrations.

  • 6-month commitment

  • One private coaching call per month (Zoom or phone), up to 60-minutes

  • Ongoing text support between sessions

  • Personalized strategy and accountability

  • Honest feedback and real-world insight

I have strategically picked the 6-month commitment, because it gives folks enough time to move through a cycle of change, and, again, this is not about hustling. This is about creating work that is sustainable and boundaried.

Let’s Connect
