ABG doulas agree to uphold the following professional expectations:

  • Confidentiality: While doulas are not HIPAA obligated, ​​the ABG doula should adhere to confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations as best they can. This means no gossiping or sharing client info without client permission.

  • Ethical Conduct: Maintain clear professional boundaries, represent your skills honestly, and refrain from misrepresentation of credentials.

  • Continuing Education: Maintain current training and pursue ongoing professional development relevant to postpartum care.

  • Community Collaboration: Build and maintain a referral network of trusted providers, including lactation consultants, pediatricians, mental health professionals, and community resources.

  • Inclusive, Culturally Sensitive Care: Honor diverse family structures, cultural traditions, and parenting choices with respect and humility.

  • Transparent Business Practices: Communicate openly about services, fees, contracts, and expectations.

  • Sustainability and Self-Care: Recognize the importance of self-care and healthy boundaries to support a sustainable and effective doula practice.

  • Respectful Communication: Work cooperatively with the broader circle of care, including medical providers and other professionals supporting the family.
